Week Three Decisions Review

All my decisions for the week have passed, so it's time to review.

Eli vs Big Ben Against the weak Bengals defense, I expected a good game out of Eli, and got a decent performance: 289 yards and a TD, for 18 points. Meanwhile, Roethlisberger sunk my opponent while getting creamed repeatedly by the quick and hungry Eagles defense: 131 yards, 0 TDs, 1 pick and 2 fumbles, totalling in 0 points. Verdict: Good decision.

Titans defense vs Packers defense After watching the Cowboys destroy an Eagles defense that I thought was pretty good, there was no way I was going to let them face off against my defense. Even if that defense had scored multiple touchdowns the previous week and been instrumental in my victory. Luckily I was able to upgrade from the #2 defense to the #1 defense, and I was rewarded; while the Packers were giving up 27 points and getting just 1 pick and 1 fumble recovery for a total of 6 points, the Titans defense was embarrassing the Texans: 12 points against, 3 picks and a touchdown, giving me 19 points and being instrumental in my victory. Verdict: Good decision.

Larry Johnson out, Felix Jones and Sammy Morris in I'd had quite enough of Larry Johnson. In fact, if I could have convinced anyone to give me something for him, I would have done the deal. At the same time, Jones and Morris had been putting up good points for my bench for two straight weeks. Something had to give, and it was my resolve. Johnson put up his best game of the year, getting 121 yards and a TD for 18 points. Meanwhile, Sammy Morris looked as bad as all the rest of the Patriots, getting only 27 yards for 2 points. It's a good thing he has a bye week coming up, otherwise I might have to kill him. Verdict: Some good, some bad.

Drop Fargas for JT O'Sullivan Fargas is hurt, I need a QB next week when Eli's on his bye, and O'Sullivan looks like he's meshing well with Martz's system. So how did JT do? 189 yards and 2 TDs, for 20 points. The only problem with that is that he outscored my starter, making me and Eli look bad. But I feel good about having a backup that can do that, especially as he'll be starting next week and he faces the Saints, who just got carved up by Cutler. Meanwhile, Fargas didn't play and there isn't a well-defined timetable for his return. Verdict: Good decision.

Roddy White out, Patrick Crayton in The Chiefs had been able to stop the pass, and not stop the run. Michael Turner was supposed to run roughshod at the expense of the passing attack. The Cowboys are supposed to be able to spread the ball around and create scoring opportunities for all their offensive options. Alas, what is supposed to be sometimes doesn't actually come to pass. Roddy had a big game (his second, both of which came while he was on my bench), getting 119 yards and a touchdown, for 17 points. Meanwhile, Romo targeted Crayton just once, and he dropped it. For 0 points. Last week Crayton got me 2 when I needed 2. This week, Crayton got me 0. He's been a bust in his brief stint with the Doomsday Church, and I'm getting frustrated. Am I the only person not benefiting from the prolific Cowboys offense? Verdict: Awful decision.

So overall I went 3.5/5 in my decisions for the week, but left 55 points on my bench (O'Sullivan, White, and Johnson) that could have been productive for my starters. But at the end of the day, my decisions wouldn't really have mattered much this week -- my opponent only scored 39 points, my starters scored 81, and my bench scored 64. He has Jerricho Cotchery left, I have Vincent Jackson. I think this one's pretty much in the bag, and I'll be moving to 2-1.
