Week Three Decisions

This week I made quite a few decisions regarding the Doomsday Church of Oblivion fantasy team. Some were tough, some were knee jerk decisions. But it seemed like more than usual this week. Definitely the most of the year so far.

Early in the week I was offered Ben Roethlisberger for Eli Manning. Ben's hurt and facing the Eagles, while Eli's healthy and facing the Bengals. Such a short term outlook usually wouldn't make that much sense, but the guy who offered the trade is my opponent this week -- I don't want to directly downgrade my chances. Ben may be an upgrade over Eli over the course of the season, but Eli is the better bet this week, and that's what I was going to go with. I unsuccessfully tried to counteroffer, keeping those two in the deal but pawning off Larry Johnson or Lawrence Maroney on the guy and trying to get a mid-level WR out of the deal. He wanted none of it. (Instead, he wanted to give me injured RBs for my only good WR. Yeah right.)

I picked up the Titans defense facing the Texans, and stashed the Packers defense safely on the bench while they face the potent Cowboys offense. It just seemed like an obvious move to keep the defense away from the Cowboys; the surprising thing about this move was that the Titans were available. They're the #1 ranked defense, and I managed to get them on waivers. It might be because I'm one of the only guys who value defensive contributions. Hey -- the Packers won me the game last week!

I've had enough of Larry Johnson and his incompetence. I've also had enough of Felix Jones and Sammy Morris scoring touchdowns for my bench while Johnson, Maroney, and Fargas do nothing for the starting lineup. So Jones and Morris are starting this week. (I presume this means neither of them will do anything this week. But I have to make the move.)

A late move was to drop Fargas for JT O'Sullivan. I'd heard rumblings that Fargas would be out for multiple weeks, and I figured that by that time Darren McFadden and Michael Bush would have established themselves. I also needed to position myself for the Giants' bye next week when Eli would be unavailable. O'Sullivan is facing the Saints next week, and I think that'll be an acceptable matchup.

And my final move was a knee jerk hunch move -- benching Roddy White and putting Patrick Crayton back in. I know the Cowboys scored plenty of points last week and didn't look Crayton's way. But I'm hoping that changes, while at the same time figuring that the Chiefs have done a good job of stopping the pass while not stopping any running game ... and the Falcons have Michael Turner to win the game for them this week. So I made the decision that I don't trust Roddy this week.

In the end, though, I'm a 28 point underdog this week. So in all likelihood these decisions won't matter and I'll get killed. But you should still put yourself in the best position to win.
