TMR Is No Help

The Talented Mr Roto over on ESPN publishes a weekly love/hate column to help you determine who to start each week. Here's his Week 11 picks ... which I was going to use to decide which running backs to start. I have to pick three of Brandon Jacobs, Lendale White, Jesse Chatman, Justin Fargas, Ryan Grant, and Cedric Benson.

Well, TMR "Loves" Jacobs, White, Chatman, Grant, and Fargas, and he "Hates" Benson (who doesn't). In fact, he calls Benson "The Big Fat Bartolo Colon of football," which is both awesome and true. I can't believe I drafted that piece of crap, nor that I haven't traded him for -- let's see, what is he worth? -- a pile of used kleenexes or something.

But if he loves five of my running backs, I just have to pick any three and I should be fine, right? Well, maybe not. He shows some mail from other readers of his column, and even admits that he's very often wrong about who's going to have a big week. Some readers have decided that if he hates a RB, that RB will do well, and if he loves one, that RB will have a terrible week. Basically that he's always wrong. So if that's true, Benson will have a good week ... and the rest of the guys will all suck.

Frankly, I don't think it can be 100% true ... and even if it were it wouldn't change my decision. I think it's impossible for Benson to have two miraculous weeks in a row, and I think the Vikings will step up from their poor performance last week and manage to stop Fargas.

I'm leaning toward starting White (he's playing the Broncos), Jacobs (he's the only one of my backs with talent), and Chatman (he's the entire Miami offense), and leaving Grant on the bench ... and I think that's going to hurt me. But Fargas and Benson will go ahead and rot on my bench, and they'll like it. That's how my roster was set before I read TMR's article, and it's not going to change.

Great. My confidence in this week's game has not changed whatsoever. It may even have gone down due to the possible existence of this "TMR RB Curse."
