NFL Week 8 Picks
Last week was a quick one, and it went about as well as all the other ones. Time is running out this time (didn't get around to it yesterday), so I'll have to bang these out faster than usual. Without the Vikings playing this week, there shouldn't be a tangential rant about their crappiness stuck in the middle.
Oakland at Baltimore (-7.5)
Okay, I'm in. Ravens.
San Diego (-3) at New Orleans
The Chargers defense is pretty weak, and Brees is pretty good. Saints.
Kansas City at New York Jets (-14)
Never underestimate the shittiness of the Chiefs. Also, I hate Larry Johnson. Jets.
Buffalo (-1.5) at Miami
I like the Bills.
Tampa Bay at Dallas (-2)
Down to two points. Everyone saying that if the Cowboys don't win today, then they'll collapse. Does that mean they'll throw down and play like it's a playoff game against the surging Bucs? I'm going to go with yes. Which is why they lose. Buccaneers.
Atlanta at Philadelphia (-9)
I continue to be impressed with Matt Ryan. So I'm going with the Falcons.
St. Louis at New England (-8)
So the Rams can beat the Redskins and Cowboys. If there's anything the last few years have told us, it's that Bill Belichick is a smarter coach than Wade Phillips. Also, BenJarvus Green-Ellis may be the second best name in the history of naming things. After Godd Shammgod. So, Patriots.
Arizona at Carolina (-4.5)
Every time the Panthers bust out a huge one, they collapse the next week. And by every time, I mean that it's happened once before. So I'm voting for it to happen again. Cardinals.
Washington (-7.5) at Detroit
Did you know the Redskins still haven't covered a spread? Did you also know that the Lions beat a spread against the annoying Texans last week? Well, when two teams butt heads, one of which I always bet for (and fail) against a team I always bet against (and fail), it's tough to pick one. But ... I just can't bring myself to bet on the Lions. Redskins.
Cleveland at Jacksonville (-7)
Here's an idea of how disfunctional the Browns are as an organization. They give an injured star a staph infection in the locker room, try to cover it up, and when he makes it public, they suspend him. Then on Sunday morning, they repeal the suspension and will pay him for the game; but he won't play because he didn't practice all week. Now that's a team that doesn't care about winning. Or its players. Jaguars roll.
New York Giants at Pittsburgh (-2.5)
I don't know, two good teams playing a game that's important to both of them? Should be a good one. And I'm going with the Giants, because I have Eli Manning and I'd like him to do well.
Seattle at San Francisco (-5)
Heh, the 49ers are favored over the Seahawks. When was the last time that happened? I'm going to ride this train. 49ers.
Cincinnati at Houston (-9.5)
So I always bet the Bengals to beat the spread, and the Texans to cover it. Neither ever succeeds. But this is a pretty big spread, it shouldn't be that hard for the Bengals to beat it. (Merry Christmas Houston, I've finally picked against you -- I think your season may have just turned around.) Bengals.
Indianapolis at Tennessee (-9.5)
I am really going to enjoy watching this game. Is Peyton Manning still Peyton Manning? Every time he gets questioned, he comes up with a huge game. Then everyone sits back with a sigh of relief, since Peyton Manning is back and everything is right with the world. So Peyton lays a giant egg. What is the world coming to? Well, I still believe in Peyton's consistency. He sucked last week, so he should have a good one today. So I'm picking the Titans' undefeated season to end this week. Indianapolis.
Argh. Counting up the results is the worst part of my week. I think I might be worse at this than everyone else in the world.
Last week: 5-9
Season: 26-42-2
