NFL Week 6 Picks

Just jotting down these picks, documenting just how little I know about this stuff. As should be obvious, I don't spend much time attempting to analyze my picks. This week, I'm going to try something new: analyze them even less. I'm just going to go with my gut, picking a team in seconds, tops. We'll see how that goes.

Oakland at New Orleans (-7)

This will hopefully be an exciting matchup between Reggie Bush and Darren McFadden. Too bad I'll miss it, because I only get four games on cable. And did you know that Reggie Bush now has more receptions in his first 33 games than anyone else in history? I have two things to say about this: 1) Why 33 games? Doesn't he just not have the most after his first 32, which is a more meaningful number? 2) Are we now going to hear an update on this in every game he plays, that's he has the most through 34, 35, etc? Bonus 3) Does this mean it's officially time for Bush to stop pretending to be a running back and admit that he's a versatile slot receiver? I think it is. Saints.

Baltimore at Indianapolis (-4)

Peyton Manning is starting to piss me off. But this does make the second consecutive year that my fantasy team has featured the best Manning in the league. So take that, Peyton! Also, at what point do the Colts start to either win games or lose them? They keep doing this last second crap, which confuses and infuriates me! Also, Colts.

Cincinnati at New York Jets (-8.5)

This is one of those games where Brett Favre will either throw five touchdowns or five interceptions. I'm flipping the mental coin, while thinking about the fact that the Bengals beat the spread against the Cowboys last week and ... let it ride! Bengals.

Carolina at Tampa Bay (-1.5)

The Chiefs are horrible. So last week didn't count. I feel bad for Tony Gonzalez; so bad, in fact, that I think he should be allowed to punch Steve Smith in the face. And Herm Edwards. Why talk about the Chiefs here? Why not? Panthers.

Detroit at Minnesota (-13)

After shocking me last week and topping the Saints, the Vikings get to host the Lions who just got murdered by the Bears. Everything about this tells me the Vikes are due for their post-win letdown (having one after every game is the ultimate mark of mediocrity). And since Brad Childress is the biggest dumbass in the world, he won't notice that the Bears did it through the air with Kyle F'ing Orton, and instead will put the ball on the ground and try to grind it out. Meanwhile, the front seven will put no pressure on Kitna (or Orlovsky) and the defensive secondary will look bad because they can't cover NFL receivers for 15 seconds, and the TV commentators will talk about how good Kevin Williams, Pat Williams, and Jared Allen are while the replay clearly shows them each getting stood up at the line of scrimmage by second-rate offensive linemen on single teams. Hey Jared Allen! I could vulture a sack or two in five games if they paid me $70M to do it. Put some pressure on the quarterback! Childress, coach your players -- how can our offensive line be this much worse this year, and you really can't say we don't have talent on our defensive front, so it's time to actually do something with that talent. Childress sucks. He sucks so much he overwhelms the supreme suckiness of the entire Lions franchise. Lions.

Chicago (-3) at Atlanta

Atlanta surprised me last week, and this time they're playing at home. So I'm going to let them surprise me again. Bears.

Miami at Houston (-3)

Funny story. I have Tony Gonzalez on my fantasy team, but Fasano of the Dolphins was available on the waiver wire. He was Pennington's #1 target and had been scoring touchdowns every week. So I went right ahead and grabbed him, hoping for more points. Of course, that means his production is done for the year, and I'm now saddled with a crappy tight end on a crappy team. Also, I keep picking Houston and they keep losing. I'm going to go ahead and keep that up. Texans.

St Louis at Washington (-13.5)

This is a really big spread. But ... the Rams are a really bad team. Unimaginably bad. At the same time, the Redskins are coming off a couple of huge upset wins on the road and could be due for a letdo-- no. I can't do it. Redskins.

Jacksonville at Denver (-3.5)

The Jaguars make me wrong every week, regardless of whether I pick them or not. Jerks. I want to punish them here but I have a gut feeling about the Broncos. So, Broncos.

Philadelphia (-4.5) at San Francisco

The Eagles are constantly lauded as being this great team, but they keep losing. At some point, people are going to have to admit that they're just not that great. Also, how can football coaches be so fat? They're constantly standing and walking and shouting and running at the refs ... it seems to me that Andy Reid should be less fat. Which forces me to ask: would people think he was a good coach if he were in shape? I think not. 49ers.

Dallas (-5) at Arizona

This is about the time of the season when the promise of a good season by the Cardinals starts to meet the reality that they're still the Cardinals. Who suck. And will never win until they either sell the team or acknowledge the Pottsville Maroons. Cowboys.

Green Bay at Seattle (0)

Seattle is not good. I don't see a bounceback game here. Packers.

New England at San Diego (-5.5)

I can't say I understand why the Patriots are such big underdogs here. Tomlinson is overrated and hasn't played well in like a year. Their best wide receiver is Chambers. Antonio Gates's career might be over. The offensive line is in shambles. Patriots.

New York Giants (-8) at Cleveland

The Giants are good, and the Browns are not good. It's kind of a big spread, but I have faith in Eli Manning to run up the score a little bit to make Plaxico Burress feel a little better after proving last week that he's totally unnecessary. If I were Plaxico, I'd be a little worried about that. See: Tiki Barber, Jeremy Shockey, Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora. You are replaceable. Giants.

So thats that. I'm feeling good about this week. At least until the games start.

Last week: 6-6-2
Season: 17-23-2
