Cedric Benson Goes The Way Of Ronnie Brown
My second round draft pick this season was Ronnie Brown. The third round was Cedric Benson. They couldn't have looked different earlier in the season. Brown was dominating, surprising everyone as he led all running backs in fantasy points through the early part of the season. Benson, on the other hand, sucked.
Then Ronnie Brown got hurt, and is out for the season. Obviously that hurts, since it's hard to replace the top points-scorer in the league (technically it's impossible). Cedric Benson continued to suck.
Until last night, of course. He finally brought his season on par with Brown's ... in that he got hurt and is out for the season. It came as he got tackled at the end of a 21 yard run, which was one of his longest of the season.
I suppose my only consolation in my busted draft is that the Bears drafted him 4th overall two years ago, and decided to get rid of Thomas Jones over the offseason to give Benson a chance to shine as the starter. That decision was even worse than my decision to draft him. (Though to my credit -- or discredit, depending on how you look at it -- I drafted him because I thought the Bears' plan for him would work.)
In the end, I now get to finally rid my roster of this cancerous "runner," and try to find someone else who can mediocre it up.
