Call the GM, Steve Finley Wants to Play!

Oh boy, I wish I hadn't just learned that Steve Finley wants to try to play another year. Fortunately, there's no word yet that the Twins are interested, but he's exactly the kind of free agent we generally go after. From the article:

"Obviously, a person views himself differently than other people do,"
Finley said. "I didn't settle into my role very well and I was batting
a buck-eighty, and I guess people were going, 'He's 42, and maybe it's
just too late.' But I know if given the opportunity, I can go out there
and perform at a high level. Physically, if I didn't feel I could do
this, I wouldn't try."
Oh yes. Give him a shot! We believe in you, Steve. We want to see if your 43 year old body can still handle it. We want you to take a spot in the field and in the lineup away from a talented and promising young player. And since your agent thinks you won't be able to get more than a minor league contract and an invitation to spring training, we want to give you a 2 year, $5 million deal with an option for a third year at $3 million (with a $1 million buyout which we want to pay you even if it turns out you're too old and crappy to play for us).

We've learned that this kind of thing works just about every time, so this time around we want in on the ground floor! Steve Finley will answer all our prayers, and before we know it we won't even remember how to pronounce Torii Hunter. Plus, he'll be able to use all that arthritis medicine Rondell White's been leaving around the clubhouse. It's win-win-win.
