Another Kemp Rumor: Erik Bedard
Just saw this rumor over on Yahoo! Sports, involving a possible deal between the Orioles and the Dodgers. There isn't a lot of information here, other than the fact that the main players involved are Erik Bedard and Matt Kemp.
Obviously, Kemp is quite a prize. He's the leading prospect for the possible deals for Bedard, for Miguel Cabrera, and -- the deal that America seems to have forgotten -- for Johan Santana. The author, Tim Brown, lists LaRoche, Loney, and Kershaw as additional possibilities to go along with the deal or as ammunition for further deals.
There's not much to work with here, so I won't wax on very long. But if BS waits too long and the Orioles get Kemp + Kershaw/LaRoche/Loney (I can't imagine they'd get more than two guys in return) for Bedard and we're still sitting with the bill for Johan ... I'll be disappointed. I haven't seen any teams that have anything close to what the Dodgers have. They can fill all our holes and leave us enough money to spend to sign either a top-flight free agent or lock up Morneau.
The Dodgers have successfully cultivated a list of interested suitors for their valuable trading chip(s). Why haven't the Twins done anything to do the same for theirs? Waiting forever for someone to ask you out will leave you standing in the rain outside the dance; I'm surprised a guy named BS doesn't know that already.
